Epistemology (second division)

One sunlit blessed morning I woke up
with the most robust and truthful
knowledge
that I had made eight appearances for the Arsenal
as a speedy and tricky winger
yes mostly as a substitute and a couple in the League Cup
back in the early George Graham days
which weren't all that glorious and
when many youth players were given a chance

After that my career kind of fell away
and I returned to my studies, at the
prestigious university from which
I had been plucked
but I was so proud to be in the history books

Of course this was nonsense, I was
barely good enough to make the second XI
of my mediocre university team
but the point is... dramatic pause...
Pinteresque in its longitude, wrong word...
but the point is...
and also let it be known it was a lower
second division university, in old football money

Hello again, the point is...
WAKE UP!
people will believe any old shit
when they're half asleep which is
mathematically
the same as half awake
or... dubito, ergo cogito, ergo sum
as Tony Adams once told me

The "I'm Not in Love" mystery (niche)

It still bothers me
HALF A CENTURY years later
that I was completely unaware of
10cc's megahit (a legit word a la NY Times) masterpiece "I'm Not in Love"
at the time, do you see, AT THE TIME (it was a hit)
it passed me by, just passed me by

And which I only <apparently> first heard when it was announced
    two years later
    on a local station
let's face it probably Capital Radio (1977)
as the Listeners' Favourite Song of all Time or some such, I mean
I know I was an absolute gorm but then
we were all aware of "Rubber Bullets"
and "Life Is a Minestrone" at least
from the Top of the Pops style 79p LPs
which weren't excuse me I know this now by the Original Artists
I was actually shocked disappointed (and appalled) when I found out

But the key point is WHERE was I when "I'm Not in Love" was a massive hit
           throughout that 1975 summer
TOTP was the ONE key viewing, but I wasn't there? we
didn't spend the summers anywhere exotic
    Margate at best and
     thus I assume
        logically
           there must have been
                        a kidnapping

The year after we all knew "Art for Art's Sake"
and "I'm Mandy Fly Me", singing along with the boys
while playing cricket actually and what's wrong with that
so why was their biggest hit
a complete unknown until I heard it
on that countdown two years later
it's never sat right with me since

En route to parkrun, did I mention I do parkrun now

Oh hello, plus good morgen
        natural sickness overruled, never-
theless one do try to overcome, so cooked
in the effing Febvrial gloom, where
        5'11" is not politics

Then murals feat. the fox
        heron, lizard, peacock
        elephant, red panda, crocodile
        also train driver + pal
        cheerfully incongruent, pls excuse

Such brief highlights
         amid the grim and dismal
on this planet we all suffer, thus
do we share it, DO WE SHARE IT

Music is the closest thing to a time machine

1994 was practically another planet compared to now
She sings like she is whispering into the ears of a lover
She was 28, young and beautiful.. this year she's going to be 56
Therapy might be helpful if you are still struggling with things long term
I am 83 years old and I still listen to this every Sunday
Intoxicating, sultry, small, innocent and still yet powerful
It's tradition that we must randomly return here. No matter what

She shares a part of her naked soul for the world to understand
There's nothing more powerful
Her voice, her face, her sadness, her hands
Respect something that’s gone in the wind
It made me so freaking teary just getting how fast life passes you by
We sat on the lawn. Good times
I remember sitting in my basement playing this on my surround sound
She performs as if she is completely out of this world or plane or dimension

My mom once told me how this song played as her airplane left the runway...
I put this song on, walk out the back, lay on the freshly cut lawn
Holding a girl I was deeply in love with
Makes me nostalgic for a time I hardly witnessed
This has been my driving late at night song for over two decades now
Sometimes you find someone who lets you breathe and shine
This brings back emotions I've thought were long forgotten. Time is so cruel
It was that plane ride that led her to the boy that would later become my father

I'm a trucker and this song is always coming up right around when the sun is rising
I think of those nights long ago
The song, its emptiness and its fullness
We all felt it so much and hugged as we listened to the beauty our friend had just introduced us to
Like she didn't just put on a timeless performance of epic proportions
63 now and it brings me back to a time that is long gone
Hearing this song reminds me of my innocence, being a kid
Dreaming of growing up and the sweet taste of froot loops in the morning while watching cartoons

My wife loved this song, she'd slowly twist her hips back and forth
Smoke a joint and close my eyes and for some reason a few tears roll down
So understated, so sparse.... yet so intense
I'm with you, brother
Memories in the dust. Some great people people lost along the way
Bros, I'm in the gym right now
You can see her discomfort and vulnerabilities...
She was smarter than me, out of my league

This song is like a hug I need in rough times
I was in the first few rows at this concert
Memories will never die
No smart phones in sight
That voice, like opium and drawn silk
How lovely to know you were there to feel and live it
I will continue to sob
Greetings from Netherland

It Pays to Increase Your Word Power

I ordered a blazing Bordellino and mescal
what's that you say, why it's an alcoholic drink made with the
fruit of a wild tree, typically flavored with orange peel

I was sat next to a Pilator
that's a person who guides someone or something
this guy was the father figure of political science
it's not the same as a mentor, no
his name was Mitchell, and Mitchell was his name

His wife was an Amarrat
in case you are not aware, that's a
woman who is an Honorary Dame, ranked above a
Privy Council or Baroness
Martha was her name, and her name was Martha

I must admit they both had
something of the Snarper about them
Pilators and Amarrats tend toward the snobbish

While sipping our Bordellinos we were offered
some Compugns which, I'm sure you know, are
small edible drums with antennae
found in tropical and subtropical regions

This alarming snack was followed by a
hearty slab of Terraea, the Argentine cheese
which derives from dried sambalaya

Mitchell and Martha, their mouths masticating the Terraea,
confided in me that they were Paulpaul quartees.
That was their Snarperish way of confessing
they had a keen interest in wine

They longed to impart all they knew
as part of their Praecological - 'it's more
than merely educational' - mission. Indeed they
insisted on being known as world class
Praecologicalists, even when they
were cross-eyed on Bordellinos and frothing with Terraea

Study suggests

Levels of microplastics
in human brains may be
rapidly rising, I mean *may be*
I've been warning about this
for literally days

The exponential rise
the tiny particles
in the brain, liver and kidneys, more to the point
in my brain, my liver and my kidneys which, over
the years and across the decades, I have grown attached to

The human body
is widely contaminated
     with micro- and
     nanoplastics, and
there are levels of human exposure

The exponentially rising
  environmental presence
    the exponentially rising
      environmental presence, and
        the levels of human exposure

++++++++++++++++++++++++
I'm a plastic waste
breakdown+++++++++++++++

       And six times
       higher in brain
       samples from people
       who had dementia

This is what I have been saying
to myself, who else, while collapsing
on the kitchen floor, while
shapeshifting in the changing room
while sinking ever
deeper into the primordial bog

They've been found at the peak of Mount Everest
and in the deepest oceans
from the Sherwood Forest to the Gulf Stream borders
in the air that you breathe, but more to
the point in the air that I breathe

Neurological damage
      premature births
      breathe it all in
      those shards those flakes
a 50 per cent increase

my contaminated heart

             my contaminated liver

                     my terminated brain

++++++++++++++++++++++++
you're a plastic bag
meltdown+++++++++++++++

Nick Holland

was a sweet kid
long, and short, of hair
but <<1977>> shook everyone off their axes
esp if you were only 13 yo
which is modern for years old

one morning he arrived early in the classroom
with four polystyrene letters reading
P-U-N-K which he somehow glued to the wall
above the blackboard yes
blackboard none of your
whiteboards then oh shut up

how did he transport these substantial objects
did his parents assist him with this mission
we shall never know

and accompanied
because he couldn't betray them
by the legends
+ GENESIS and
+ STATUS QUO
writ large in chalk on the aforementioned blackboard
