They had the most peculiar back garden
a bowl or is it bole, I mean
there was a giant dip
surrounded by greenery, like if you slid down
into it you flap to get up, hard even
for a determined seven-year-old
to navigate, and
Impossible for two or more to play
any internationally recognised form
of football or cricket
But for any form of foolish chase
and tumbling down like
little spanners it was foolproof
Anyway, Kenneth did his best to ignore me
just as he had for the previous five years
and as he would for the forthcoming five
Our mums were school gate pals which didn't
mean we had to be pals,
I mean come on mums (UK) / Moms (US)
I considered him an uptight red-faced poltroon
and it's possible he didn't
hold me in the utmost regard either
not with (cool little dude) Ed Talbot round the corner
Although I deserved then
as I (calmly) deserve now to be HELD
in the HIGHEST of kindest REGARDS
by YOU and certainly not by any of THEM
